Hi All.
The Dia Bear Club has been going for over 15 years now and in this time we have helped many children and teenagers accept and live a normal, healthy life with diabetes. We have also been there for the parents of these children providing them with advice and support to be able to cope with diabetes in the family.
If you are a parent of a child with diabetes faced with problems, a child or teenager who has questions and you feel that no one seems to listen, or a care-giver/teacher, please contact us. We have a panel of experts who would be more than happy to help.
We recently held a camp for under-privileged children with diabetes and it became apparent that the need for education is great. These children, often raised by a grandparent or family member who have no idea of what diabetes is, suffer the consequences of uncontrolled diabetes. These children were so eager to learn more and after a weekend at our campsite went home full of courage and wanting to share more about their diabetes with their families. By talking and telling others of your diabetes makes them more aware and informed. It will also help lift all the myths associated with diabetes.
We are planning to have copies of the Dia Bear CD distributed to schools and hospitals so that patients and their families can learn about diabetes in an easy to understand way. We will be looking at the possibility of translating the CD into a few different languages.
If you have any ideas on how we can help with diabetes education, please let us know.
Until next time.
Best regards, Lionel
